Smartphones and Security

http://realite-ahlablog.blogspot.comOur smartphone often contains not only our bank details as well as important documents and a wealth of personal data such as photos, videos, direct access to our accounts in social networks, etc. Best avoided, therefore, be in the hands of others! Here are some good habits to adopt to avoid an additional source of stress to that of being separated from his precious smartphone.

1-      Save your data to another media

As it happens for you to do on a computer, the data that you store on your phone regularly to be copied to an external storage space. Indeed, when you back up on a single SD card or built-in micro SD to the smartphone, your data will fly with the lost or stolen phone!
several options: A copy storage spaces such as a computer, USB stick, hard drive, ... are the most conventional methods.
Online storage spaces are also proven in recent years. We forget the risk of also losing his USB key, dropping the hard drive, and lose all his holiday photos! The "clouds" as they are called, offer the advantage of being accessible all the time, on the Internet.

Today there are a lot of clouds, such as Mega, Google Drive, onedrive, Hubic.
Nearly all offer a free space with a capacity of several gigabytes where you can load both photo files as videos, texts as PDFs. Secured with a username and password that you choose when creating the account, these spaces can be accessed by other users you trust. Few applications like iCloud for example, to back up data directly from a remote phone. And these are generally limited to the contact list or call log.

2-      Install antivirus

We often tend to protect a less mobile than a conventional computer.
Yet exposure to malware are as important to the mobile phone if you regularly uses the Internet. And the damage can be as many. Hence the need to protect its smartphone.
Antivirus, free, sometimes already installed on smartphones. If you do not have one, there are many downloadable on the Appstore or Playstore. Among the most popular include Lookout Mobile, Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG mobilation or Sophos.

3-      Be as careful as on a computer

As highlighted earlier, uses a smartphone today are the same as on a conventional computer. So it is logical that we must adopt the same vigilance reflexes. When you check your mails, for example, always ask yourself if it comes from a safe sender before opening it. Also avoid to respond, as in the case of so-called junk mail "spam". Direction trash!
Remember to update the latest version of your operating system and software when they are available. The computer world is changing fast, and there are as many updates, it is because they provide a "plus" compared to the previous version. Your smartphone will be more protected. To perform these updates, it is also possible to do it in "Settings"> "About phone"> "Update software".
Finally, when you make a purchase over the Internet from your phone, make sure to do it on secure sites. These are always preceded by the security protocol "https". If this is not the case, do not because the transaction will not be encrypted and bank data could be found between the wrong hands. Nobody wants to see his bank account emptied by someone else! You can also opt for secure payment platforms like Paypal, a sort of "wall" between the buying site and your bank details.

4-      Distanced delete data

In case of loss or theft of a smartphone and when the hope of finding him is negated, the first instinct is to delete all its data. You can do it remotely, but prior setting is necessary. Please note that this action is irreversible and data will be permanently lost even if you luckily find your phone.

In any case, regardless of the operating system, the location must be activated. Otherwise, it will not be possible from the internet to make contact with the phone.

We must also think about the functions necessary to enable remote deletion:

- IOS "Find My iPhone" in "Settings"> "iCloud"

- Android: "Locate this device remotely" in "Google Settings"> "Security"> "Android device manager"

- Blackberry "BlackBerry Protect" in "Settings"> "Security and Privacy"

- Windows Phone: No special handling is required.

To delete the data, then just go to the web interfaces of operating systems (addresses below), to connect with a username and password and click the button that allows it.
