Apple makes it easier to switch from iPhone to Android with iOS 26.3
In the iOS 26.3 beta, Apple is introducing a major feature that allows iPhone users to easily transfer their data to an Android smartphone. Developed in collaboration with Google, this new feature simplifies an often complex step: switching mobile systems without losing important files.
A built-in tool for transferring data without an external app
Now, all you have to do is bring the two
devices—iPhone and Android—close together to start the transfer. Once
connected:
• photos
• messages
• notes
• compatible
apps
• passwords
• contacts
and phone numbers
can be
copied automatically.
This system
eliminates the need to install third-party apps, making the process faster and
more intuitive.
Some data remains excluded from the transfer
Certain
information cannot yet be migrated:
• Health app
data
• Paired
Bluetooth devices
• Secure
content such as locked notes
How does wireless transfer work?
To use the
feature, both phones must:
• Be updated
to the latest system version
• be
connected to Wi-Fi
• have
Bluetooth enabled
Two
connection methods are available:
• scan a QR
code displayed on the Android device
• enter a
session ID and pairing code
Transfer is now bidirectional
At the same time, Google already offers a reverse
solution: transferring Android data to an iPhone. The transition between the two
ecosystems is now bilateral, promoting more balanced competition between iOS
and Android.
Compliance with European regulations
According to the European Commission, these tools have
been developed in accordance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Although
imposed on Apple and Google in the European Union, the feature is available
worldwide.
Where can you find the option in iOS 26.3?
Once the
beta is installed, simply follow the path:
Settings →
General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Transfer to Android
A strategic change for Apple
This development marks a turning point for Apple,
which has historically focused on customer loyalty through its closed
ecosystem. By making it easier for users to switch, Apple is responding to
international regulatory pressures and encouraging more transparent competition
in the mobile market.
This feature gives users greater freedom in choosing
their next smartphone without fear of losing their essential data.
