OnePlus is expanding its premium range with the new OnePlus 15R, a smartphone designed to offer extreme performance, record endurance, and high-end features... while remaining more affordable than its big brother, the OnePlus 15.$
A robust, certified design
The 15R focuses on durability. Its IP68, IP69, and
IP69K certifications ensure water and dust resistance, even under high
pressure. Although the manufacturer has swapped Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for
Gorilla Glass 7i, the phone still proves to be very sturdy in drop tests.
A bright and smooth display
The device features a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with
remarkable smoothness and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz. Compatible with HDR10+
and Dolby Vision, the display achieves an impressive peak brightness of 3600 nits, making it ideal for outdoor use or high-quality streaming. The absence of LTPO,
reserved for the OnePlus 15, remains one of the visible compromises.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5: raw power at your fingertips
The first smartphone to be released with the
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip in India, the OnePlus 15R has a clear ambition: to win
over mobile gamers.
The performance is impressive: nearly 3.1 million
on AnTuTu, controlled thermal stability thanks to an optimized vapor chamber,
and frame rates capable of climbing to 165 Hz on compatible games.
A gigantic 7400 mAh battery
Another strong point is its battery life. Thanks
to a 7400 mAh silicon-carbon battery, the smartphone easily promises two days
of use. All this with a weight of just 214 g. The 80 W wired charging ensures a
quick full charge, but you'll have to do without wireless charging.
Modernized connectivity, storage, and software
The OnePlus 15R is available in 12/256 GB and
12/512 GB versions with LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage. It provides
next-generation connectivity with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, although the USB
port is still limited to USB 2.0.
On the software side, the phone runs Android 16
with OxygenOS 16 and focuses on artificial intelligence. Gemini makes its debut
via Plus Mind, as do several AI features dedicated to productivity and
photography.
A simplified camera module
OnePlus has made a few concessions when it comes
to the camera: the telephoto lens has been removed, replaced by a dual 50 MP +
8 MP sensor. Despite this, the 2x lossless zoom offers good results for
portraits. The smartphone also allows video recording up to 4K 120 FPS on the
rear camera and 4K 30 FPS on the front camera.
Verdict: excellent power/battery life ratio
The OnePlus 15R ticks almost all the boxes:
gaming performance, exceptional battery life, future connectivity, and an
aggressive price. Available for pre-order in December starting at €699, it's an
attractive alternative to the OnePlus 15 for those looking for power and
endurance without paying a high price.
